Fighting Sun and Barbados

Our Wednesday summary for Gawler, Canterbury and Sandown races is a short one, this week. Limited talent going around but felt i had to mention the continued success of the Sebring clan. A treble by the Redoute's Choice stallion, Barbados also caught my eye and when I checked the dams of the winners. The name Hussonet came to my attention.
  • Barbados -- A winner at Canterbury in the maiden over 1250m for the 3yo gelding, My Blue Jeans, started the day off well, for jockey James Mcdonald and the Barbados breed . Then at Gawler there were two of them successful with Galcrum in the 1150 maiden, for fillies and mares. The filly sat deep, most of the trip and still forged clear down the straight under hard riding by Jeff Maund. She is out of the Hussonet mare, Hushabye. While in the last over the 1100m with Jamie Kah in the saddle, Atlantica, another filly, scored in the BM60. She was heavily backed and won easily. Its interesting to note she is out of the Host mare, Hot Senora. Host is by Hussonet who is a Mr Prospector stallion. Barbados has a connection to the great grey's Emancipation and Gunsynd through his dam Virage De Fortune and Stands at Ducatoon Park in South Australia.

  • Sandown -- Fighting Harada won the 2yo event in great style and could be worth following. The first season stallions to racing progeny go, the Fighting Sun's, do show potential and I would rate them second behind the flying, Zoustars. He won with plenty in hand and is still learning. Layel the winner of the Clanbrooke Racing Handicap is worth a mention being by Reward For Effort out of the Stravinky mare, Dalayel. He was ridden well by Michael Walker for Mick Price to just hold on and win from a desperately unlucky, Grey Shadow.
  • Sebring -- Once the carnivals over the Sebring's come out to play and over the last few weeks they have been cleaning up, all over the shop. Yesterday was no different with a good win by Florida Keys on the Sandown track. He sat wide and finish well to score under strong riding from Rhys Mcleod. At Canterbury it was another James Mcdonald ride that saw the Sebring gelding, Bringagem win the last, BM70 over 1900m.
